What impact does Elmendorf Air Force Base have on the small towns north of Anchorage (Palmer, Mat-su area)?
Friday, December 11th, 2009First (and foremostly), let me say that I truly support our military, especially the young men and women defending our country. Many of our family friends are serving all around the world, and I thank God for their service.
For the past 15 years my family and I have lived near a large Air Force base in the southeast US. For the first 4 years we lived about 3 miles from the base. Of course, we got screeching fighter jets and rumbling transport planes. Then we moved about 25 miles away, but we still get several fly-overs a day.
My question - we would like to move to one of the small towns north of Anchorage Alaska within the next few years. (Palmer, Mat-su area, etc.) Will we be similarly impacted by Elmendorf Air Force Base? My neighbor - retired Air Force, formely stationed there - tells me “no,” but it has been several years since he has been there.
Any serious input would be appreciated. Thanks!
